Eastern Regional Health Authority and the Cardiac/Critical Care Team invites expressions of interest for a full-time Cardiac Surgeon.
Eastern Health is the largest integrated health organization in Newfoundland and Labrador. It employs over 13,000 employees and provide services to a regional population of more than 300,000. Eastern Health has unique provincial responsibilities for tertiary level institutional services.
The successful applicant will be an integral member of the four-surgeon Cardiac Surgery team supported by three nurse practitioners and will work within an interdisciplinary team to provide full scope Cardiac Surgery Services at the Health Sciences Centre (HSC). The HSC is the tertiary adult cardiology/cardiac surgery center for the province with approximately 650 -700 cardiac surgery cases per year, has an active Transcatheter Aortic Valve Program (TAVI) and is the provincial referral centre for invasive cardiac diagnostic and interventional procedures.
To be considered candidates must be eligible for licensure as a cardiac surgeon in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador and hold membership with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Demonstrated expertise in mitral valve repair either as a recent fellowship trainee or through clinical experience is required, along with left ventricular device and extracorporeal membrane oxygenator management experience and familiarity with program-based management system is desirable.
HSC is a teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University affording opportunities for research and teaching. Academic responsibilities will be consistent with part time academic faculty at MUN. In addition the successful candidate will have the opportunity to assume a leadership role with the cardiac surgery program depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Compensation is via an Alternate Payment Plan (APP).
